This year marks the 50th anniversary of Gilbert Johnson starting his own Colorado Springs-based construction company; a company that has since become one of the region’s most prominent general contractors.
GE Johnson Construction Co. has seen much change over a half-century — the firm is larger and more dynamic than ever under the leadership of Gilbert’s son Jim Johnson — but one constant is a commitment to conducting business with quality, integrity and a handshake.
“I think my father’s vision was to have the company succeed him,” Jim Johnson recently told the Business Journal, “so I think he would be pleased that we’re still here and that the values that have always been a part of the business still exist today.”
GE Johnson has completed projects of all kinds across 14 states: office buildings like the Plaza of the Rockies and the USOC Headquarters; hotels like The Broadmoor West; hospitals like Penrose Hospital East Tower and the Castle Rock Adventist Health Campus; sports facilities such as the Tri-Lakes YMCA, the U.S. Olympic Training Center and the Holaday Center for athletics at the U.S. Air Force Academy; and educational buildings like Cheyenne Mountain High School and the UCCS Lane Center for Academic Health Sciences.
