Best Hairstylist

Jessica Valentine

Jessica Valentine says she “took the scenic route” to her career as a hairstylist.

“I went to cosmetology school the first time in the mid ’90s in New York City,” she said. “At the time, I was working as a model full-time and I went to cosmetology school part-time, completed the course, completed everything — but then I met my husband and moved on to Connecticut, got married and I never took my state boards.”

Seven years ago, she enrolled in cosmetology school again, this time in Colorado Springs.

“By that time I was a single mom, working. I went back to school, finally got my license and started working at Genesis Salon here in Colorado Springs, and then I moved to the tiny little salon which is right next to my house. … I came back around to what I had originally planned to do 20 years prior.”

At Lodo Looks — A Hair Salon, Valentine loves the interaction with her clients best.

“I really love making them a better version of themselves. … I enjoy watching the transformation and I love the fact my clients trust me to do that for them.” Valentine said she felt honored by the Best In Business award.

“It’s a tremendous compliment for my [clients] to think that much of me,” she said.
