Jackson Homes Roofing & Construction

Will Jackson started Jackson Homes Roofing & Construction in 2010 following a layoff — it was the year the economic downturn took its toll on the company he’d been working for since high school.

“It was the most nerve-wracking experience I’ve ever had,” he recalled. “I had $30,000 saved and I took all that money and put my last penny into the [new] business.”

He’d been a project manager averaging 50 semi-custom houses a year in the $500,000-$800,000 range, but he started over as a one-man-show, framing basements, doing remodels and learning roofing. Today, his business encompasses Jackson Properties, Jackson Developmental Solutions (the commercial construction division) and Jackson Roofing.

“I think what sets us apart is how diversified we are,” Jackson said. “We have lot of feedback from customers that they really like the fact that we’re a one-stop shop. We do new construction … custom houses, roofing, gutters, siding, decks, window installs, screens, kitchen remodels, bathroom remodels. … The big stuff, the small stuff. They don’t have to call anyone else.”

Jackson said he is “super excited” about the award.

“It’s the first time we’ve been nominated for something like this. … We’ve grown over the years — we’ve got nine employees now, we’ve got vehicles, we’re building our commercial building that we’re moving into this year — to have this is icing on the cake. We know we’re going in the right direction when people are giving us that feedback.”
