Wells Fargo came to Colorado Springs as a result of a merger between San Francisco-based Wells Fargo & Co. and Norwest Bank in 1998. The 1990 Norwest Tower, still the city’s tallest building, was renamed the Wells Fargo Tower in 2000.
Although Wells Fargo does not disclose details of its local loans, deposits and customer numbers, it’s clear that the bank has a substantial market share. It operates 13 branches, distributed throughout the city — the most of any bank.
“We’ve become one of the nation’s largest financial institutions,” according to the company’s Vision and Values statement, “serving one in three U.S. households and employing approximately one in 600 working Americans.”
