Owned by the Kiemel family since 1967, Bestway — which has been in business locally since 1950 — serves thousands of residents in Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs and the Fountain Valley. Tom and Phil Kiemel are fourth-generation workers in the disposal business; their father bought Bestway 50 years ago when it had three trucks and a few hundred customers. The company grew along with the Pikes Peak region to become a state-of-the-art rubbish removal and recycling operation.

“It is really an honor for the Business Journal readers and our customers to recognize us this way,” said Tom Kiemel. “It’s very gracious of those who voted for us. It’s a reflection of our dedicated staff and their effort, pride and passion for the way they approach their work. We’re an old company, and service is our foundation.”

Kiemel said going the extra mile pays off.

“It’s the small things that set us apart,” he said. “Like we’ll knock on the door if a customer forgot to put their trash out. We’ll try to secure the trash receptacle or put it away on a windy day after we empty it. We try to go against the grain of what people expect from their trash company.”
